July 17th to 22nd

July 17th, Robert makes lobster omelet for breakfast, yummy! Catch the 1:00 ferry to Pictou, Nova Scotia. A beautiful day for a ferry ride! Find our RV park then drive into Pictou to have a look around. There's a Farmer's Market that we will have to catch tomorrow as it closes in 5 minutes. There is an "Adopt a Lobster" centre here, talk to a young lady who works here, it's a Federal Government lobster hatchery. The area here has declining lobster stocks so they are trying to reverse that. The cylce is 7 years and they are in year 4. They have lobster from 1-3 days old! very cool. Running into more mosquitos and black flies! We don't like it!

July 18th, we do visit the Market before we head out of town. Take some of the scenic route to Antigonish then on and over the Canso Causeway and we are on Cape Breton Island. Beautiful sunny day and the drive is awesome. We are not impressed with the info we have from the Nova Scotia tourist bureau, trying to find a campground is not easy. Finally find MacLeod's RV Park on Dunvegan Beach, we are in the overflow but the beach makes up for it. The very best beach and water we have found yet! And the rocks are cool too we fill our pockets. Wiener roast for dinner.

July 19th, another beautiful day and we truck on through Margaree Harbour, Cheticamp and then stop at Flora's Gift Shop, manage to buy a few things! Starting to climb now so stop at a few view points, what can I say unbelieveable! I was here 28 years ago and remember it as being beautiful but this is really something to see. We climb then descend really working the Triton V10 - yikes our brakes must be hot! Finally over and coming down the Atlantic side we find an RV Park just out of Ingonish "Broad Cove". Ride our bikes over to the beach and swim or I should say dunk in the Atlantic. It's a might cold and the beach is very pebbly, hard on the feet.

July 20th, off today to complete the circle tour, the whole Cabot Trail! The reminder is certainly not as impressive as we've seen in fact we could of missed this part. Stop in Baddeck on Bras d'Or lake for fuel. A lovely little town with lots of sailboats in the water. Stop in Margaree Forks at a corner store and ask about camp grounds end up on Lake Ainslie and get a spot right on the lake. Lovely spot! Drive into Whycocomagh to find a place for dinner, we luck out and have a good dinner - no lobster! :o)

July 21st, we're away back over Canso Causeway and into Antigonish, find a Wal Mart and Superstore and stock up. Then we're off for the Eastern Shore, down highway 7 to Stillwater and a campground called "Nimrod" on a little lake and quite pretty. Meet some people from Crofton! She worked at CIBC and he worked for BC Tel. Amazing!

July 22nd, awoke to rain, we have a small lake forming around us. Finally turns to drizzle and we are off. Stop in Sherbrooke Village but do not tour the village, we visit the Info Centre and get more information on campgrounds and Provincial Parks. Then we're off along a very rough road, and lots of construction. It's very much like driving along the Pacific Rim, scrubby trees, misty and not very prosperous. Finally find Porter's Lake Provincial Park and get a couple of great spots, great view and it's not raining! Watch RV with Robin Williams tonight - sure am glad I'm not travelling with him! lol

July 10 to the 16th

We spend two nights at Black Point. Our neighbours are great, all local people, very friendly. We walk the beach and swim and just take it easy.

July 11th we are off today on the Coastal Scenic route 134 through Bathurst, Caraquet, lots of Acadian flags. On through Miramichi - roads are ROUGH! Lots of fishing boats sitting in yards. On to Kouchibouguac Nationa Park, a bit rainy. Find the RV Park and get our spots, great place and we are able to eat out under the awning. Stopped today and bought some lobster, cooked and ready to eat.

July 12th we get on our bikes and ride over to the beach area. Walk the board walk over the sand dunes and to the beach. Sky threatening rain but I get my feet in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. We are off for PEI over the Confederation Bridge, very impressive! 12.6 km. Cross over PEI to Oyster Bed Bridge and find our RV Park. Beautiful countryside, lots of potatoes growing. Eat our lobster tonight.

July 13th, off to Charlottetown. Very busy with construction and of course Regis and Kelly are here taping and doing some live shows. We head down to the waterfront to check it out. A big cruise ship is in the harbour. Take a walking tour and do some shopping. Visit Confederation House and see where it all started, Canada that is! Very hot and humid today. Drive over to Summerside for dinner but have a difficult time finding a restaurant. When we do we are very disappointed, the potatoes are hard! and here we are in PEI! I guess they ran out of new potatoes.

July 14th, raining today but we pay for another night and we're off in the truck to do some touring. Head to Cavendish, did some shopping along the way and took some detours to various beaches. Watched a little fox try to find lunch. Dropped by Green Gables boy has it changed since I was here 28 years ago! Back to Summerside for groceries and stop at Subway for a Lobster Sub - yummy! Rain finaly stops.

July 15th woke to a sunny day. We are off heading for the East Point Lighthouse. Discover our battery is not charging properly, the inverter for the computer is squealing. I guess it is the alternator, oh great. Make it to Red Point Provincial park overlooking the Gulf, very beautiful. Check out the beach, great but chilly water and lots of red jelly fish. The park host tells us of a restaurant back at North Harbour so we decide to head there for dinner. Have an awesome meal and Leeta, our waitress (1st Nations) is absolutely great! And the truck makes it. North Harbour is Canada's Tuna Fishing Capital, lots of boats out fishing. They hold the record for biggest tuna caught at over 1400 lbs.

July 16th, my brother Richard's birthday, time to reflect on memories. Maurice spends time on the phone looking for an alternator. The Ford dealer in Montague finds one in Charlottetown and says he will have it by noon. So Moe puts the little Honda generator in the truck box and wires it to the truck battery somehow and off we head for Montague. We do make it, the Ford dealer is right on the highway so we just pull in pick it up and we are away to our next destination. Panmore Island Provincial Park, pull in and get settled. Moe changes the alternator then we are off to the beach. Beautiful sandy beach, sand dunes, and sun. We go for a swim, cool but refreshing. Awesome day.

July 5 to July 9

Left Quebec City (Levi) area just before the heat wave, the morning we left it was 28 at 8 am. Hot and humid!! Not a good nights sleep last night as Skipper caught another mouse at 2 am, and of course he always has to bring it to bed for us to see and admire! Yuk.

We are following Hwy 132 along the St. Lawrence River, lovely drive, one diary farm after another. Much more affluent than what we saw coming into Quebec. Stop in St. Jean Port-Joli, apparently the wood carving capital of Quebec. They have a museum here like the wax museum but wood carvings. We bought a puffin for the boat. On to Bic National Park, raining! We discover that they will not allow us to stay here as we have pets so on we go to Rimouski and find a very nice RV Park that won #1 park in Quebec last year.

July 6, off to Cap Chat weather is good so the view is great! Stop at Jardins de Metis (Reford Gardens) and spend a couple of hours walking and admiring the gardens. They have an area called "festival" where various creative genius have created their idea of the "perfect?" gardens. Well if you are familiar with Quebec "art" you will know these are very unique. There is one garden of 16 varieties of potatoes and a house built into the ground that contains 1000 potatoes wired together to produce sound and light. Remember those experiments in school? Anyway off to Cap Chat find a spot on the river, walk the beach, get my feet wet! Have our first lobster dinner here, very basic but the lobster is excellent!

July 7, (SKIPPER: Yes Missy and I are still on this trek with our parents! This morning I had the scare of my life! I was out trying to soak up a little sun when I hear these thundering feet coming at me down the beach, and then into view came these HUGE four legged creatures - monsters to me! My Dad thought they were great, but I ran to the 5th wheel as fast as my four legs could travel and hid under the table for the remainder of the morning!!)

Some fog this morning but it disappears quickly, at La Martre just below the red lighthouse there is a very bad accident involving a motorcyle it looks like, we have to detour, hate to see these kinds of things. The road is like a roller coaster! up and down and around some of the grades are 14 to 17% unbelievable!! Hope we have good brakes. The scenery is beautiful though and all we need is the sun to shine and we would be happy. Stop in Forillion National Park for lunch then off to Gaspe, drive through a patriotic spot, many Canadian flags! Then arrive in Perce and discover a quaint little tourist town, people everywhere. The rock is awesome! not a disappointment at all!! Our camp ground has a view of the rock so we decide to spend two days here instead of one.

July 8 we head into Perce for breakfast and to do some shopping, it's a beautiful day the sun is shining! Do some touring around. Go to dinner at a Pasta Restaurant, the food is to die for!! Some thunder and showers but just another excellent day.

July 9th we are up and off by 9:00!! amazing! I must admit that it is usually closer to 11:00 before we are on the road. The drive along the south coast of the Gaspe is totally different than the north, much less rugged and much more populated. In fact it seems a continuous string of homes and towns. Very hot today up to 33! and still very humid. We finally cross into New Brunswick and find our campground at Black Point, right on the water, Chaleur Bay and again we decide to spend two nights. Max and I go for a swim and cool off. Not long until the thunder starts and the clouds roll in and the rain comes, but it doesn't last long and we are able to eat outside.

In closing today I must say we were all a little nervous of the reception we would receive in Quebec. But after our time there we are all very impressed with the friendliness of the Quebecers. Everyone treated us very kindly and were interested in where we came from etc. Max and I feel like we need to learn some french!!

June 30 to July 4

Stop at Upper Canada Village on our way to Ottawa. We could have spent the day here it was so interesting. The best part was that all the old stuff was actually working! The flour mill, wool mill, saw mill, cheese making and bakery, plus a broom maker, shoe maker and tin smith. Everyone was so interesting and all dating to the early to mid 1800's. We had lunch there and of course purchased some of their bread and cheese and also broom and tin. On to our campground just outside of Casselman not too far to drive to Ottawa.

July 1st, Canada Day! We are off to the Nation's Captial but not too early as we are staying for the fireworks at 10. We get parked and onto Parliament Hill in time to sing O'Canada with the thousands of other folk then watch the Queen and Prince Philip and the Prime Minister walk down the red carpet to be sped away. Got within about 50 feet, saw the Queen's hat but only saw them on the big screen. Spend the day walking around, toured the Supreme Court bldg., had a hotdog, wandered along the Rideau Canal looking at boats, had dinner then walked back to the Supreme Court building where we will watch the fireworks. Not many here now but by 10 it is packed with people. The fireworks were awesome!

Next day we decided to head on to Quebec City, we have a spot booked at a Park in Levi, across the river. The drive through Montreal took a little time but we made it. The farms along this area are not as prosperous as in Ontario. Our park is nice, we are in the overflow for two nights then we get a spot.

Take the ferry into Quebec City comes right into the Lower Town, awesome, find a place to park and away we go. It is even more beautiful than 30 years ago. Do some shopping then take the funicular up to the Upper City, visit the Info centre and purchse tickets for a bus tour. Two hours and a very interesting tour later we head back to the Lower City and find a restaurant for dinner. Lots of rabbit on the menus! But not for us. Our last day we stay put, catch up on laundry and clean house etc. Some showers today and very warm and humid. Tomorrow we are heading along the St. Lawrence and onto the Gaspe Peninsula.
